Thanks to your help 1.866 sterilizations and 1.899 vaccinations have been carried out at the Ortovet clinic of Bucharest (updated data on September 24). After the last call, we heartily thank all the people who generously sent medicines and veterinary material as we requested. An extraordinary contribution was given by Mrs. Paola of Turin who gave us the microscope. We report some among the most significant cases treated by M.D. Liviu Gaita; these are very serious emergencies in large part caused by road accidents:
The first run-over dog was found at the edge of a road and was taken to the clinic; the second had a broken back spine but, after a successfully performed surgery, this dog can walk again.
This puppy was found abandoned and devastated by a serious dermatitis that is currently getting better after weeks of treatments.
Attacked by a dog, this little puppy was in desperate conditions; after an operation lasted 4 hours you can see it miraculously on its feet.
Also Molly arrived to the clinic in a very serious condition and now she is rather well; we are taking steps for her adoption hoping that she can soon find a family to make her welcome.
EMERGENCY FOR 600 DOGS
We received a desperate call from the Leyla Shelter of Bucharest.
The owner, deceased last month, leaves these 600 souls that will have to be promptly transferred as the ground
were they are is on sale. Waiting for further explanations, we sent a donation to stop the food emergency. M.D
Liviu Gaita is taking care of the sterilizations.
IMPORTANT: considering the remarkable number of dogs that need our help, this year we had to abandon the
calendar. The funds will be used to support the sterilization program in collaboration with the Ortovet clinic as
well as the support that is our intention to guarantee to Leyla shelter, according to our financial assets.
PLEASE HELP US TO BUY FOOD

During the second trimester the sterilization program has been ceaselessly carried out by M.D. Liviu Gaita at the Ortovet clinic of Bucharest. Since the beginning of the year 557 operations and 587 vaccinations have been carried out for a total of 1.615 castrations and 1.639 vaccinations performed since the beginning of the project that is since April 2006.
The emergencies that are daily met are many and of severe entity: the images show a dog with expanded tumor; a puppy with wounds caused by bites and infected by worms; a dog that was shot subsequently burnt by a gas lamp; a dog with an enormous haematoma caused by a haunch wound.
The unprecedented violence episodes continue against these unprotected creatures. No comment would be adequate to describe the suffering pictured by the following images.
The puppies are continuously abandoned before the shelter or at the doors of the Ortovet clinic inside plastic bags.
During the month of May 2007 all the dogs hosted at our shelter have been vaccinated again, they were put on a microchip and all of them underwent a double parasiticidal treatment. The meeting I had with the Mayor of the municipality of Leordeni, Ing. Grigore Trache, the past February 26th, had concluded in a very positive way. He is a person of great sensibility to whom I would like to express all my gratitude as he has approved our sterilization, vaccination and release programme on the territory of Popesti.

By means of the newsletter published by the Municipality of Popesti Leordeni, the users are informed about the possibility of sterilizing dogs and cats at no cost at the Ortovet clinic. The day on which the owners can accompany their animals for the sterilization in our shelter is established on a weekly basis. At the moment, we have assessed 50 monthly castrations as far as regards the territory of Popesti, a number that will certainly increase due to the great reply that this initiative has received.
We bought a van by which the personnel of the Ortovet clinic provides at no cost interventions and recuperates wounded or run-over animals in case of emergency.
These pictures document an example of the very frequent cases treated by Dott. Liviu Gaita. Since April 2006, the date on which the project has begun up to now, 1.217 sterilizations and 1.211vaccinations have been carried out. We kindly ask you to keep on supporting us with veterinary material and medicines.
Four just-born kittens were left in front of the clinic; despite the initial worry due to the scarce chances of their surviving, fortunately a cat-foster was found that took care of them.
I wish to particularly thank all the people who gave us the little pet-coats which were of great help for our little animals. All the material you gave us is sent, on a weekly basis to Bucarest, precisely every Sunday afternoon.
A total of 10 puppies were found last week in the fields near our shelter. We are providing them vaccinations and, once sterilized the puppies will be brought to Italy waiting for adoption. I wish to thank, as usual, all the volunteers who offer their precious help to guarantee the adoption of the puppies coming from Romania. The puppies arrived on the last 4th of March were all successfully adopted.
